Nancy Pelosi seems to believe that our individual rights, which the Declaration of Independence says are “God-given,” actually come from her, and the big government she represents. Here’s what she told supporters about the GOP Cut, Cap, and Balance plan, “This isn’t just about them saying we should reduce the deficit. This is an excuse. The budget deficit is an excuse for the Republicans to undermine government plain and simple. They don’t just want to make cuts, they want to destroy. They want to destroy food safety, clean air, clean water, the department of education. They want to destroy your rights.”
The clear logical implication of listing the rights of American citizens in a long list of government responsibilities is that our rights are given to us by government, and that an attack on government is tantamount to an assault upon our rights. Anyone who is still confused about which party stands for true individual rights has to find the choice no longer disputable. Conservatives stand with the founding fathers and assert that rights are inalienable, God-given, and ours by nature; Nancy Pelosi believes that she gave you whatever rights you have, and that collective government is the arbiter of liberty.
